archbuildAI

A Blender add-on that turns a two-dimensional floor plan into an editable three-dimensional model, in development since March 2026.

the work

The add-on takes a floor plan image, finds the walls, doors and windows with a vision model trained for the purpose, and builds the result in Blender as ordinary geometry: extruded walls with the openings cut through them, a floor plane for each room and a label on it. Because the output is made of Blender objects rather than an import, all of it can be edited by hand afterwards.

The parsing model runs on the user's own machine, so a plan need not leave it. A further pass that reasons about the result, for harder plans or for finding several floors in one image, is optional, off by default and uses a key the user supplies.

Work began in March 2026 under the working name FloorPlan3D, which is the name that still appears in the panels shown here, and the add-on has not been released.

A research paper written alongside it is held with it: Measuring What You Think You're Measuring, on how benchmark scores for floor-plan extraction depend on decoder configuration and dataset representation as much as on the model.
